Wilco

Wilco is an American alternative country rock band based in Chicago, Illinois.

The band was formed in 1994 by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo following singer Jay Farrar's departure. Wilco's lineup has changed frequently, with only singer Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt remaining from the original incarnation. Since early 2004, the other current members are guitarist Nels Cline, multi-instrumentalists Pat Sansone and Mikael Jorgensen, and drummer Glenn Kotche. The National

Although formed during the post-punk revival of late '90, The National took inspiration from a wider set of influences, including country-rock, Americana and Britpop. The lineup began taking shape in Ohio and officially cemented itself in New York, with baritone vocalist Matt Berninger joining forces with two sets of brothers: Scott (bass) and Bryan Devendorf (drums) and Aaron (guitar) and Bryce Dessner (guitar).

The Weepies

In 2006, The Weepies big label debut Say I Am You came out on Nettwerk Records. After an initial hard-scrabble tour in their compact car as a duo, Deb Talan & Steve Tannen’s music appeared in more than a dozen TV shows, as well as several major motion pictures.

Their iTunes sales topped the folk charts in eight countries. Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol nominated them for a Short List Music Prize, and Mandy Moore asked them to write with her and sing on her album. They were invited to open for the Indigo Girls and invited onto the Hotel Café Tour; they played the Oxegen Festival in Ireland, the Hurricane Festival in Germany, and T in the Park in Scotland. Their MySpace player hit 2 million plays. JCPenney and Old Navy used their tunes as the theme songs for their major holiday TV campaigns.

Phoenix

Phoenix i a French alternative rock band formed in 1999 and started off as the backing band for a remix of Air’sKelly Watch the Stars” single. Soon after, Phoenix released their debut album United in 2000. The name “Phoenix” was officially chosen in 1996 when Laurent Brancowitz permanently joined Phoenix after his other band Darlin’ disbanded. The other two members of Darlin’ (Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo) went on to form Daft Punk.

The French band comprises Thomas Mars (vocals), Deck D’Arcy (bass), Christian Mazzalai (guitar) and Laurent Brancowitz (guitar), who started playing music as kids in a suburb of Versailles during the same cultural period that produced late-’90s bands such as Air,Mellow and Daft Punk. The band’s lineup has no permanent drummer or keyboardist.
